| The costume that started
it all. Me and a good friend at the time (back in 1989) decided we would try
to win the big prize at a Halloween party downtown. After considering some
different options we decided on the Predator. Why? Because it was just plain
cool on many diffrent levels. Helmet : Chicken-wire and Bondo. It weighed a ton. Some chrome paint over a textured finish with a little aging and the end result was pretty good for a couple of amateurs. Body suit: 3/4 inch foam covered with fabric, stitched in muscle pattern, then painted with a latex (roof sealant) paint., then painted as per the characters colors. The latex layer made this costume a real cooker. Sweat like crazy we did. Cut up some plastic for the body armor, some chicken bones around the neck and there you have it. We didn't win the big prize but we were getting lots of 'oohhhs' and 'aahhhhs'. The addiction had begun. The following year saw the making of Predator II and was built much the same way. |
